Monet's Sunflowers

Monet's Sunflowers

$175.00

24" x 18"

SOLD

This piece replicates a painting Monet did of sunflowers in a vase (pictured above my work). Of course, it is nothing like the great master's, but it sure was fun to try! I have always wanted to try my hand at Van Gogh's Starry Night...maybe it will be next.

In the Works

As of now I have many pieces almost complete. I believe there are around sixteen pieces awaiting their final touch. Currently I am working my first abstract piece, and let me just say up front it is a beast. It is my most ambitious work ever, but so far I am happy with what I see taking form. As soon as I have these pieces complete I will post them here.

Also, I will be attending a Christmas art show this November called "Bedazzled by the Arts" put on by Flo Caddell. I will be showing three large pieces along with
20-50 small to medium pieces. This is where I will debut my Christmas Collection.

This is my absolute favorite work to date. The colors are brilliant against the background. This piece took longer to accomplish than any other piece I have done so far, but the effort was a price well paid.

This was my first large piece, and also the one where I had the "eureka" moment. It took me a long, long time to complete this work, but the effort was well worth it. What I derive the most pleasure from is that one of my dearest friends now owns this piece, and I often see it "in action". The beauty of it still amazes me, it is indeed striking. I say that, not of my artistry, but of the reflection of color from the glass. This remains one of my favorite pieces to date.

"Green" Materials

So many people have gone "green" these days. I don't necessarily believe that being "green" has to be a political view, rather a responsible way to live. Why not try and take care of the world we have been given? Too long, we as Americans especially, have lived with a discard mentality. We discard everything: furniture, houses, pets, even people. I think it is wonderful that our thoughts have now turned to what can be salvaged and refurbished. At Heart Song Studio we seek to create works of art from recycled products. We use scrap glass otherwise discarded by professional stain glass companies. Several times a month we go to various shops and pick up scrap glass. (Pictured here) We then sort the glass by color and set to work.

Early Works

There was a time when I thought surely I would make nothing of myself or this form of art, but my desire to benefit others through art kept me going. The early pieces I did surprisingly sold and quickly at that. (Though as I look back now I can't help but laugh and wonder why.) This gave me hope and a will to persevere. With each new piece an understanding came, along with a feel for the glass until one day I recognized it was no longer a struggle to form the shape rather an intuition. I began to trust myself more and more, and that is where the pleasure of the art was revealed. Now, I can see a frame or window and just know what was meant to be in it. Sometimes I have ideas of what I want to do, but when I find that perfect, empty window it speaks to me and says,"I was made for that idea" and then I simply work to bring it out of the window or frame.

Heart Song Studio

Here at Heart Song Studio we love to take the discarded and “unusable” materials and make them into beautiful pieces of art. Isn’t that the perfect picture of what can be done with the lives of these children and communities on who's behalf we work? What the world has “discarded” and deemed useless can in fact become something of the utmost purpose and beauty with the proper touch.

This was in fact how we arrived at our name Heart Song Studio. We were seeking a name for this new venture when, one morning, we were discussing the orphans and children and began to talk about the purpose for which they were each created. How they must dream and hope for so much more and just what was the song in their heart, their hope, their cry? That phrase stuck and seemed so fitting for our purposes thus our name
Heart Song Studio.

My First Piece

A dear friend of mine began creating works of art using stained glass years ago. There was something so rugged and old world about this medium, and the variance of the glass exquisite. I begged her to show me her technique. My first foray into glass was poor to say the least, but my heart was taken by its beauty none-the-less. After studying the technique further in various places and adding a style all my own I arrived where I am today. There is still much to learn, but I am game and the avenue is endless.
