A while back I made a picture to order for my young neighbor. In return for the picture, she babysat our boys for the price I would have charged in the shop. So as my husband and I sat on the porch one morning last week sipping our coffee she strolled up "I have brought you a customer", she said. Sure enough, another young girl from down the street looking for a birthday present for her friend. We struck a deal for babysitting (the only time art is created and I personally benefit from it is in the case of young girls with no monetary resources). She whipped out a drawing complete with color specifications and was thrilled when I agreed. It turned out quite cute. She was pleased with the result and I look forward to a quiet conversation with my husband over dinner.
